MEDITATION-WHAT IS MEDITATION?

Meditation is the journey to ultimate truth. When achieved it is a life transforming experience, accessing a space devoid of any internal and external expectations.

AUTHENTIC

Meditation Classes at Yoga Dharma use methods drawn from authentic sources and systems. The science of yoga gives us techniques to unlock and harness the energy within the subtle body for ultimate liberation.

SUBTLE BODY

The subtle body includes Nadis and Chakras. Nadis carry Prana (subtle energy) throughout the system, and Chakras distribute subtle energy. Through limited awareness the Nadis become blocked, and the Chakras need re-tuning.

KOSHAS

Koshas are layers of existence which surround the inner truth or Atman. Using Yoga Meditation techniques the layers are exposed and the truth (Atman) is revealed.

PRANAYAMA

Pranayama is on one level a system of breathing exercises, and on a more profound level it is for controlling and directing the subtle energy (Prana)

Sama Vritti (equal breath) stimulates the rest and relax response (Parasympathetic nervous system) and so creates a calm and restful space.

Nadi Shodana, or alternate nostril breath, will control the flow of Prana (subtle energy) cleansing the Nadis and Chakras.

PRATYAHARA-MENTAL CLEANSING

Our senses are bombarded with information through sound, sight, smell, taste and touch, keeping us bound to the material world. Pratyahara, the gateway between the inner and outer worlds, and will help us keep our focus inside.

DHARANA

is the practice of training the mind so it is less flighty. The practices of Pranayama and Pratyahara create a mind that is steady and focused. Watching thoughts as they appear in the mind, while allowing them to pass will help develop the skill of Dharana

DHYANA-MEDITATION

The mind is activated through Prana, so every time there is an inhale or exhale the mind is stimulated. Prana Dhyana focuses on the space after the inhale and after the exhale. Between the two breaths there is non-movement, in which the awareness is drawn for mediation (Dhayna)

SAMADHI

Is surrendering to and being fully absorbed into an object. A space when there is no space, and no concept of our personal identity, with only objectless truth.
