Massage has been around for ages. The earliest records available are from China and date back to 3000 BC . Japanese, Indians, Egyptians, Grecians, Romans are all ancient cultures that practiced this therapeutic healing treatment.
The meaning of the word massage translates as ‘to knead’ and ‘press gently’.
Ear candling has been practised by the ancient Greeks and many other civilisations as well as the Native American Hopi Indians of North Arizona. Hopi Indians (which translates as people of peace) were the first settled tribe of the North American Continent. They were very spiritual people who lived in harmony with nature.
The techniques used in chair massage are based on Anma which was developed thousands of years ago. The relatively recent therapy of shiatsu is an off-shoot of Anma.
In the East health maintenance is practised to “harmonise heaven and earth”.
Reflexology is believed to have originated in the East, particularly in India where it spread to China and Japan. More recently, 2500 BC, Egyptian papyrus scenes show practitioners treating the hands and feet of patients.
